# DeviceLink

> DeviceLink gives AI assistants scoped, consent-gated access to files on your own machines. Files are streamed on request and are never stored on DeviceLink servers, and every share is explicit and revocable.

DeviceLink runs as an MCP server. There are two ways to share a folder. The fastest needs no install: pick a folder in a Chromium desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera) and approve the tab as a device, and it is shared for as long as that tab stays open. For a device that stays connected, install the CLI agent (`@devicelink/dlink`) on the machine holding the files. Either way you share specific folders into a workspace and connect an AI platform to that workspace. Access is per-folder, audited, and can be withdrawn at any time.
