What DeviceLink does

DeviceLink connects ChatGPT to files on your computer in a way that is scoped, transparent, and user-controlled. You choose which folders to share ("roots"), and DeviceLink operates only within those shared folders.

• Local-first: the agent/CLI runs on your machine.
• User-driven access: actions happen only when you ask.
• Shared-folder boundaries: no access outside roots you shared.

Why this app

Copy/pasting files into chat is slow and error-prone. DeviceLink makes it fast to explore, search, and read project files while keeping access bounded to what you explicitly share.

DeviceLink does not silently scan, index, or upload your computer.

Tip: If you want this version to be auto-updated, you can inject it during build from your package.json.

Current limits

• One workspace and one device (current design).
• Multiple shared folders ("roots") are supported.
• All file paths are relative to a shared root.
• Absolute paths and traversal (e.g., ../) are rejected.

Security in plain language

• Shared-folder-only enforcement: the agent denies access outside shared roots.
• No background scanning: it works only in response to your request.
• Data minimization: avoid logging sensitive content by design.
