Privacy Policy

1) Overview

DeviceLink enables users to connect ChatGPT to files on their own computer. DeviceLink is designed to be local-first, user-controlled, and transparent.

2) Local software (CLI)

DeviceLink includes a command-line interface (CLI), distributed via the NPM package @devicelink/dlink and executed using the dlink command.

The CLI runs locally on the user's machine and performs file access only within folders explicitly shared by the user.

3) Data we process

Depending on the actions you take, DeviceLink may process the following within shared folders only:

• File and folder names
• Paths relative to the shared folder root
• File contents when you explicitly request reading or analysis
• Basic metadata (e.g., file size, last modified time)

DeviceLink does not access:

• Files outside folders you explicitly share
• Credential stores (password managers, browser passwords, OS keychain)
• Clipboard contents
• Screen contents, camera, or microphone

4) When data is transmitted

DeviceLink transmits data externally only to fulfill your explicit requests. For example, when you request that ChatGPT open or analyze a file, relevant content may be sent to OpenAI to generate the response.

No background uploads: DeviceLink does not automatically upload, sync, or index shared folders.

5) Logging and diagnostics

We may maintain limited operational logs for reliability and troubleshooting (e.g., timestamps, request identifiers, high-level error messages). We aim to avoid logging sensitive data such as file contents, private keys, or OAuth tokens.

6) Data retention

DeviceLink does not intentionally retain file contents long-term. Operational logs, if enabled, may be retained for a limited period for debugging and security monitoring.

7) Your controls

• You control which folders are shared.
• You can remove shared folders at any time.
• Stopping the DeviceLink service disables access immediately.
